I recently had dinner with my bestie and we got to talking about cheating on your diet (we call diet eating plan (because the internet says it’s better to call it that wink-wink) and how fast one little cheat, can turn into two or three little cheats and in the end spiral out of control. We also got to talking about how weird it is that we try and hide our behaviour away by sneaking in a chocolate while nobody’s watching or much a bag of chips in the car before you get home so that you can dispose of the evidence before your significant other greets you at the front door. The irony of it all is that the only person you are cheating is yourself….
Coffee & Catch-Up
Wow, I totally overshot the deadline for posting my catch up for May, but I promise it was for good reason. This month has been crazy busy at my day job given that we were short staffed, and somewhere in between all of that I found the time to brand and setup a new blog!
I set out this year with a few goals planned out as I have shared in our last few catch ups. One of those goals was to prioritise healthy eating and exercise and focus on getting this aging body into better shape so that it holds me in good stead for the rest of my life. To be honest it’s the one of two goals that I have been the most successful at so far this year (the other being making plans to relocate to Cape Town). I think I’ve been successful because it really doesn’t take that much time out of my day to get out and exercise. On top of that we all have to eat, so I practice making healthy food for the family on a daily basis so I have had lots of practice in this department which I believe why I have been so successful…. I’ve had to make the time to focus on it….
Ihave followed a Paleo lifestyle since January 2013, so I’m not a total newbie to the idea of eating low carb meals and filling up on good fats to replace the drop in carbohydrate intake. In fact Prof. Tim Noakes came and presented at our Crossfit box in April 2013 but at the time I had paid little attention to what was said and decided that it was “pretty much Paleo” so I would stick to what I was doing.
It was only in April 2014 that the number of people in South Africa I was talking to, who were adopting the idea that carbohydrates should be reduced and fat should be embraced, seemed to be skyrocketing. When I explained how I ate to family and friends, everyone was asking me if I was on the “Tim Noakes” diet and didn’t refer much to Paleo. I was intrigued. How could one man be causing such a stir about how we should eat?
It’s quite amazing to me that I’m already sitting down to write this month’s coffee and catch up post and that by the end of the week we will officially have hit May…. Where did the first four months of the year disappear to? I feel like one of those boring people who spend all day complaining that they can’t believe that it was “just yesterday that I was .. my how time flies!”
I guess you can look at the idea of time passing by and seeming like it’s all too fast with the mind-set of: time flies when you are having fun, or, you could see it as experiencing what I think that so many of us suffer from which is just being overly busy a.k.a. suffering from disease of modern age: busyness. The only issue with this I guess is when all the busyness isn’t moving you in the direction we want to go in. Often the things we fill our busy days with are actually nonsensical given the context of where we are trying to go, but bearing this in mind we often don’t know where we are supposed to be going hence the paradox: we fill each day to the brim to ensure we move toward somewhere we are not quite sure we are going, and in doing so often suffer burn out and a sense of not accomplishing anything.
I’m I the only one who feels like this sometimes? (I’m guessing the answer is no!)….
Hello Lovelies! It’s Saturday afternoon and I have had a great day of catch ups, shopping & baking, now it’s time to settle down with a cup of coffee and share what March has brought. This has really been a month of challenges and setbacks as well as great successes, so I guess you could say it’s been a balancing act of note!
I started off the month with a robbery [my car was broken into and laptops and my iPhone was stolen] and with that has come a list of admin tasks as long as my arm. I have had to fill in insurance forms and tried to carve out time to get replacement quotes etc. etc. I’m glad to say that I’m pretty much back to where I started: I have a great new work laptop, a new iPhone is on the cards and I’m busy sorting out the damages done to my car [wiping sweat off my brow as I type this]. I’ve also chosen to not see the negative in this and rather to focus on moving forward and not letting the whole incident get me down….
